Dobar dan!
We are Patricia and Ángel, the new Spanish volunteers in Slava Raškaj Centre. We come from a small region in northern Spain, called Asturias. Specifically, from a not-very-famous but really beautiful city: Gijón. We are here as representatives of organization Conseyu de la Mocedá de Xixón (Youth Council of Gijón), which helps a lot of young people in order to find their own way and grow up.
We found this project on Conseyu’s web-site and we chose it because we are interested in helping others, especially if they have some kind of disability or difficulty. At first sight, Slava Raškaj Centre seemed a really good opportunity for us because it offers quite a lot different activities and ways to help young people. Furthermore, we believe that we can contribute sharing our knowledge as psychologists, and Slava Raškaj can give us a lot of useful tools to use in short term future.
In these first days, we have met the people we are going to work with, both teachers and students. Our first impression was really good, from the start we felt in love with the Centre. Everyone here does their best to make us feel comfortable, even when we don’t understand a single word of Croatian (not yet).
We are very excited and we hope we’ll be useful to the Centre. We’ll keep sharing our experience, stay tuned!
